The Newsclip File |

Alcohol and other drugs, substance abuse and addiction,
prevention and treatment appear in print on a fairly regular
basis. We don't all read the same newspapers and magazines, so
some of the reports escape our attention. This monthly feature
captures some recent items.

New Address for ACT Missouri
Paychecks Accompanied by Warnings
All state employees received an insert with their paychecks
in November. The note, sponsored by MoDOT, is on the back of a
simulated $10,000 greenback. It lists what "driving while
intoxicated will cost you:"
- Towing $ 80.00
- Bondsman $ 60.00
- Attorney $ 500.00
- Fines & costs $ 500.00
- SATOP (Substance Abuse Traffic
- Offenders Program) $ 200.00
- Insurance $ 3,300.00
- License Reinstatement 90.00
- TOTAL $ 4,730.00
The flyer asks the question: How would you rather spend
your money this holiday season? It also contains these
messages: YOU DRINK AND DRIVE. YOU LOSE! Use a designated
driver. Call a cab. Stay put until you're sober. You work hard
for your paycheck. Don't blow it on a DWI. It's simple. If you
drink - even one - don't drive - period!
